Explain My Surgery is a group of physicians and surgery patients who have been frustrated by the communication breakdown in the doctor patient relationship. Over the years, we have watched the sacred bond between a physician and his patients disintegrate until it has become almost adversarial. We believe that information can go a long way towards repairing the rift. By carefully detailing an exhaustive list of surgical procedures and their associated risks and benefits, we open the door to communication, to informed decision making and to realistic expectations.

We hope to demystify surgery and make it understandable to all people, regardless of education level. We hope to make the patient an informed consumer, knowledgeable and prepared for surgery and all the potential outcomes. Lastly, we are here as a resource; we are not here to replace the doctor, but to help focus the patients on specific issues so that face to face doctor patient interaction is maximized.
